Battle of the Blue Liquid Lipstick: Kat Von D vs. NYX

Battle of the Blue Liquid Lipstick: Kat Von D vs. NYX

As a lover of unconventional lip colors I sometimes struggle to find good reviews online. I can find 50 reviews of every nude color on the planet but often the best I can find for non-traditional colors is an Instagram. Disclaimer: I love a good nude as much as the rest of humanity, I just like a bit of variety. I, along with the rest of the universe it seems, have been getting into liquid lipsticks recently and I was overwhelmed with the amount of options. Just walking into Sephora I was overwhelmed by the variety of the options and the price range!

I have been able to find a few comparisons of more conventional colors in a few places online but I hadn’t found any for the more unconventional shades I was looking at so I decided to try a few out and compare them for you! If you would like more posts like this be sure to leave a comment below and let me know! This week is the Battle of the Blue Liquid Lipstick! Blue liquid lipstickLet’s start with the basics! Our bargain contender is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Moscow. This retails for $6 and is available at various retailers online as well as at Ulta in the U.S. We also have a high end option, Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Echo. This costs $20 at Sephora.

Battle of the Blue Liquid Lipstick Round One: NYX – Moscow

I purchased this product first and I was a bit uncertain at first. wearing blue lipstick is quite a commitment so it took a little getting used to to get me out of the house in this one! I think the actual color of this product is gorgeous, a darker blue with an almost green tint that is very unique. However, it is extremely difficult to get an opaque application. I found that no matter how I applied it, or how many times I reapplied, I just could not get this color to be uniform across my lips. That being said, I don’t think many people stare at your lips all that closely so it is possible to get away with it. I would say that this is perfect for someone who wants to dip their toe into the blue waters, but doesn’t want to invest to much on the first try!

Battle of the Blue Liquid Lipstick Round Two: Kat Von D – Echo

I hate to say this because I truly am a drugstore girl at heart, but the Kat Von D really is superior. The application is just so much smoother, it almost blows my mind. The color is a bit more true blue, whereas the NYX pulls a little more to the green side. I enjoy both colors but I know that finding the right shade can be a big deciding factor and most people would prefer one or the other. I would say that the Kat Von D also has superior staying power. It is by no means ‘everlasting’, but it dried faster and hung on longer than the NYX option.

I hope you have found this review helpful! I know that blue is not the color for everyone but I think it is surprisingly wearable given the right styling! Let me know what you think in the comments below and let me know if you have any other unconventional products you would like to see. Have a great day!

I love the shade of Echo, it’s gorgeous on you! Have you considered Jeffree Star? I have two of his blues and they’re fantastic, similar formula to Kat Von D’s liquid lipsticks 🙂 xx

Gah I just bought Moscow the other day (FINALLY, I’ve been wanting a navy lippie for soooo long), but I have to agree with you. I’m going to try layering it over a grey lipstick or maybe mixing it with a grey liquid lippie to make a more opaque formula because this one just isn’t cutting it. So bummed.

I had not thought about layering it with grey, I might try that out! I was a bit disappointed with the coverage but I’m eager to make it work! Let me know what works for you!
