Healthy Habits: Start Making Them

Healthy Habits: Start Making Them

Every year January rolls around and we make a whole bunch of promises, sometimes just to ourselves and sometimes to our whole Facebook feed. We promise to change bad habits, we promise to start new patterns, we promise to be better selves. But right now, a month and a half out, most of us have completely forgotten about those promises, and when we do remember it it’s with a twinge of guilt.

To combat this mid-February slump I have been trying to take better care of my body. Getting myself into healthy habits is my way of easing myself into wellness. I am by no means perfect but I have been making small changes in my daily routine to help me get back on track.physical fitness healthy new years resolutionDuring the fall I had gotten into a fabulous gym routine but the cold weather and abundant precipitation have really dampened my enthusiasm. To ease myself back into things I have been trying to do more workouts at home to get rid of my excuses. I don’t have much space so I’ve started small. One piece of my routine that has become a fixture is doing some yoga before bed. at home fitness yoga healthy habitsI started by browsing YouTube to find night-time yoga routines. I like to mix it up so I don’t do the same flow every night but if you find something you love feel free to stick to it! A few of my favorites are by LivestrongWoman and Yoga with Adrienne.

Another one of the healthy habits I have been trying to get into is eating healthier. I am not throwing out all the chocolate by any means, but I am trying to make better choices in small places. I have been having more fruit, especially as a sweet bite at the end of meals, I am keeping oranges and apples in the house to make this super easy. I have also been trying some healthier snack options. I am going to be trying a new healthy-snack subscription box in the next few weeks.Healthy foodHealthy habits JackfruitRecently I have been trying the Vivapura Dried Jackfruit* for a mid-or post-workout pick me up. It has natural sugar in it which helps pep me up but there is no artificial nonsense that’s bad for me so I don’t feel guilty about eating it. It is raw, organic and vegan as well as non-GMO verified so I am happy knowing exactly what I’m putting into my body!

How have you been doing with your new years resolutions? Do you have any tips for healthier living? What are your favorite healthy snacks? Make sure to let me know in a comment below!

Yes to yoga! I decided at the start of February to just go for it, I bought a mat then did a YouTube yoga tutorial. I found my back pain disappeared and went “why haven’t I done this sooner?”
I haven’t done it much but I’ve bought in Wii Dance, (is that funny i find it funny haha) as they have workout routines as well as the fun dances. I know find myself throughout the week feel the want to exercise now! I go hey after this I’m gonna dance, do sit ups and plank for about 30-40mins! It’s great! 🙂

I do need to start eating more regularly and probably take out some of the junk. With work all over the place I don’t have a set time for when I eat which probably isn’t good for me. But I have been buying apples to eat in my breaks so thats good right? haha

    Great post 🙂

I definitely think the yoga has helped with my back pain! Now I just need to borrow some of your motivation and get the rest of the workout in! Bit by bit we will get there!

I always feel great after yoga, but can’t seem to make myself do it. I have such an attention deficit that the idea of being in one place for 30 minutes really drives me nuts.

Drinking a lot of water is always good. I bought a 2L bottle that I try to keep filled at all times on my desk at work. You’ll be amazed at how much water you drink when the bottle is right there! Throw a few ice cubes and lemon juice in there to make it extra refreshing. Frozen dark cherries are fantastic for a sweet bite at the end of the night. Also, as you cut out junk food, your body naturally stops craving it. You’ll be amazed at how little you will want it as you start to cut it out!

I usually do shorter videos as I do it before bed and I would just drop off some nights! I haven’t been to a class in ages and I’m nervous because of the length! I definitely need to get myself a good water bottle! I am always walking around campus so I get tired of dragging mine around and I just leave it home!

The sworkit app is also great for at home workouts! I’ve been trying to schedule my workouts in advance, that way I’m more likely to stick with them.

I was using Sworkit over the fall and I have fallen off the bandwagon! Thank you for reminding me!

I kept trying to start working out and I always end up giving it up for some reason. The only thing that sticks is dancing in my kitchen – maybe that can become a for of exercise haha 🙂

If dancing in your kitchen was exercise, I would be an Olympian! Who do we talk to to make this happen?
