DIY How to Denim Hair

As denim hair is so trendy at the moment I thought I would talk about my experience with it and how I got my denim hair color. step by step denim hair

This was the color I started out with. I had a grey-purple with about an inch of regrowth. I started by bleaching my regrowth and then I took bleach through the length of my hair. After that process I conditioned and toned my hair. After that, my hair looked something like this:how to denim hair

To achieve the color I used Ion Brilliance Lavender and Purple which were the base of my purple for years. I also mixed in some N’ Rage Purple Plum and Black Raven – This is what has made it go blue. I would like to advise all the colorful haired folks out there that Purple Plum is not in fact a Purple, but really a blue. (How confusing is that?)DIY hair colorAfter mixing the colors together I painted the color on with a tint brush roots first and then I added a bit of conditioner to the mixture before applying it to the lengths. I actually didn’t apply any dye to the the ends of my hair as they were already so light. The rinse out from the rest of the color tinted the ends lightly and created a nice ombre to denim hair

My Experience with Denim Hair

One of the questions that everyone asks about fashion colors is how long it lasts. Now, semi-permanent dyes are not going to last forever, but a dark blue is one of the longer lasting colors I’ve had. My green does last longer. As a general rule cool colors last longer than warm colors. This color lasted well long enough for me and I had to bleach it out when I wanted to change things up again.

I hope you enjoyed this post! Please let me know if you’ve tried any fashion colors, or maybe you’re still thinking about trying one!

Have a great day!

You look stunning whatever hair colour you have, but I love this denim hair trend right now! This looks so beautiful on you! I only dip dye my hair, I struggle to maintain and redye it as is so I’d be too lazy to upkeep my whole head! I would love to dip dye my hair this kind of colour, a blue violet shade, but I’m really enjoying green right now, so maybe in the future haha!

Roots have been the bane of my existence for years! When I had purple hair I felt like I was re-dyeing it at least once a month if not more! I’m rocking a black to grey ombre right now and it is SO much more manageable – I might never go back!

I’ve never dyed my hair a ‘colour’ before, I’ve just done a lighter blondes than my natural colour. How long did it take for the roots to show and how difficult was the upkeep?
Also how much do you think it would be to go to a hair dresser?
    Thanks xx
